J is an asylum seeker from Afghanistan who fled his home country with his wife and son, aged sixteen. The family are Sikh and were threatened with death unless they converted to Islam. They do not have suitable coats and shoes for our climate. They also need a second-hand phone so that they can be contacted by the Home Office and keep in touch with their family in Afghanistan (as they are deeply concerned for their safety).
