K is a single mum of two children, one with special needs. She has fled domestic abuse, has had to start again in a new area, has little money and debts from the previous relationship. K claims Universal Credit, but there have been deductions from it. Her son broke the wooden slats in his bed and she was taping it together, it had been second-hand to her in the first place. The Besom charity has donated a new bed, but K needs a headboard to provide safety for her son. Please can we help her?
S has recently moved into a housing association flat after being homeless. He is delighted to have the security of a home, however, it is unfurnished. A friend lent him a washing machine and a fridge, but now he needs them back. His only income is from benefits, so he can just get by, but he doesn’t have any spare money to buy white goods. Your help to buy a fridge will mean a great deal to him as he tries to become settled.
E is a refugee from Afghanistan who came to this country a few years ago, having to leave his family behind. Recently his family have been able to be reunited with him and they are setting up their home. Although they can wash their clothes they are in need of a tumble dryer as there is no space where they can dry their clothes. They are also needing a microwave so that some food can be prepared more efficiently to keep control of their electricity bills.
These refugee parents and their three children have just arrived in the area and have been provided with a house. The children are going to be in local schools where they will have to wear uniforms. When the children start at school they will feel "different" and out of place. but your help to provide uniforms and be dressed the same as other children will assist their settling in.
