£200 remaining for a fridge freezer
K has had to move out of private rented accommodation with her three children, due to major damp and water ingress issues which were so bad they caused a small electrical fire. The council has rehomed them, but they have to start from scratch, including replacing their clothes, due to the damp and mildew. There are no white goods in the accommodation and there is no money to reach all that needs to be covered. A cooker and a washing machine has already been sourced, but K is still in need of a fridge freezer.
Mum works part-time and has two children. She just didn't know where to turn to for help when her fridge freezer suddenly stopped working, and one of her colleagues signposted her to us. Mum feels very ashamed to ask for help, as she is working and trying to get by, but I have explained that even people who are working are really struggling. This didn't ease her guilt, but she was overcome with emotion when I explained how Acts 435 works. Mum then told me she lives from pay to pay with no room for error.
Our client, I, is twenty eight years old and a mum to two children. She works part-time around the school hours, as she feels It's important to teach the children a good work ethic, plus working gives her a sense of independence. Universal Credit pays her rent and tops-up her wages, but this still leaves little left for household items. Mum has no wardrobes for the children and really struggles for storage, causing chaos in the bedroom. She has asked for support with a wardrobe and small chest of drawers. Please can you help?
