D receives Carers Allowance and is only allowed to earn less than £150 a week. She struggles with age-related illnesses including slipped discs, and the person she cares for has chronic physical and mental illnesses. D's health has deteriorated and it has come to light that she has been sleeping in her armchair, as the springs on her mattress have gone and she cannot afford to replace the mattress. This is the price of a mattress in Argos which is rolled and ready to collect immediately.
