E came in for help with an oven repair. Part of the cooker works but the element in the oven has broken. She works part time but this affects how much Universal Credit she receives each month. After her usual bills are paid there is just not enough money left to pay for repairs.
This lady was distressed when she came to our Foodbank. As we talked, she was close to tears saying that 'everything was going wrong'. The hob of her cooker has broken, she has no microwave and the only way to heat food is in the oven although she admitted that this too was not working properly! She also disclosed that she is in arrears with her rent. Please would you help this lady to know that someone cares. It would give her some much-needed hope in her life. Thank you.
When we first met J he was sleeping in a tent. He recently had a heart attack and although in supported housing has been actively working with support workers to be offered his own accommodation. Naturally he is over the moon to finally have his own place. He does however need some help in acquiring white goods and needs a fridge.
This couple are on benefits so have a very low income. Recently their cooker broke and they desperately need it replacing so that they can cook and eat healthy meals. They have requested help to buy a second hand cooker, and any help that you could give them would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
L has lived in various shared accommodations and been homeless over the last few years. He has finally been offered a room with ongoing support through a local housing scheme. He has a double bed frame in the room but no mattress and is unable to buy this himself as he receives only Universal Credit which doesn't allow for such large expenditure.
This 35 year old single mum from London has just been rehoused in St Neots. She and her 18 month old daughter were homeless and could not be rehoused within their area. She is glad to be here and says she feels safer and grateful for the welcome from a local church. The flat has basic furniture but the kitchen has barely any equipment. She desperately needs a kettle, a microwave, and possibly some pots and pans. She is waiting to be allocated a local Social Worker and for benefits to be sorted.
