R is 71 and overstayed due to illness, which is likely to be terminal, making her too ill to fly home. R was manipulated by her ex-partner and he took all she had, including her home. She is not eligible for any benefits. R sleeps on her son's sofa but he cannot financially support her. She feels like a burden and is suicidal. Vulnerable Adults, Social Services, have been contacted by her doctor but any help will be long in coming. Meantime she has no money for clothing, shoes or indeed food.
Y is a recovered alcoholic. She was assaulted in front of her workplace and sustained a head injury which kept her off work for nearly a year. She tried going back to work, but flashbacks of the incident resulted in panic attacks and paranoia. She benefited from counselling to end her alcoholism and believes that counselling can help her again, but the cost is prohibitive and the waiting period at the NHS service is too long to bear. She needs any financial help to get started.
