This young person has recently secured accommodation after sofa surfing with friends. She is starting from scratch and the property requires some decoration. This help would enable her to make a safe and comfortable home for herself. She is a student and reliant on benefits and struggling to make ends meet.
This young person has grown up without a positive support network around him. He came to us for his first tenancy to have a fresh start in a new area, which would be beneficial for him in improving his mental health. Your donation would help him get ahead of his utility bills and give him the space to be able to work on budgeting and take steps towards independent living in the future.
D is a lady we have been working with for quite a while. D is heavily involved in the community, attending women's groups and taking up a number of volunteering opportunities. She is gaining confidence to rebuild her life after a childhood of trauma. When I visited her property recently I was sad to see the small room she has as her bedroom has not been decorated since she moved in 12 years ago and in much need of decorating. D said she would do it herself but cannot afford the paint and materials. A freshly decorated bedroom would be a real blessing to this lady.
L is a prison leaver who suffered a very difficult time before she went to prison. A fire in her house, started by L when she was feeling suicidal, destroyed a lot of her belongings and left the property in a bad state. Our of prison, L believes prison saved her life as she has received so much support. She's built bridges with her family and ex-partner and is engaging with alcohol support services. She found faith in prison and feels like she is starting afresh. Decorating materials to rectify the damage caused by the fire would help her in this fresh start.
Our client is a 17 year old girl who was referred to 'Moving On Durham' through social services. This young woman's relationship with her parents broke down due to her mental health issues and she has moved into a flat to live independently but has very little money for furniture. She has only just made a Universal Credit claim due to being 17 and has no savings, and your support in purchasing some basic items such as a couch, hoover, curtains and kitchen utensils would make such a difference to her. Thank you.
