Acts 435 Giving to anyone who has need

The full text of the Archbishop's online advent calendar for 14 December 2012 is given here:

A few years ago, I set up a charity aiming to bring real help to those in need from those who have the ability to help. We began with a big vision, but only a few volunteers, setting up a pilot scheme across Yorkshire and the North East of England. However from little acorns do mighty oaks grow!

The idea of the name ‘Acts435’ is based on the experience of the Christians in the early church where the believers shared their possessions and there was not a needy person among them. The proceeds from the sale of their land and property and possessions were distributed to each as they had need. But we aren’t asking anyone to take such drastic action as selling their house to help others. Actually the maximum amount that can be requested by an applicant is a donation of up to £100 for a specific item. For example, maybe they need a new bed, a washing machine or help with the gas bills?

Acts 435 has a network of advocates, mainly but not solely in local churches, up and down the country transforming lives in practical ways. 100% of donations made go directly to those who need it. Maybe in lieu of giving a present this year you could make a donation to a person in need at

Never forget that your actions can have a positive effect on others – no man is an island! Why not be a trendsetter and give a bit of hope to someone in need today? Remember with God even that which seems impossible can become possible.
